In the Beginning
We are really excited about our new topic- In the Beginning.
We have already created a topic web of what we would like to learn. This ranges from dinosaurs to ancient civilisations, such as Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, stopping at the Ice Age, Stone Age and Bronze Age on the way.
Keep checking back to see what we are learning.
To kick off our topic we held a whole school Wow Day. We worked in mixed groups across the school, from preschool to year 6 on a variety of topic based activities.
We started off by looking at baby photos of both the children and staff and the children worked together to create factfiles about themselves and talk about their early life. They also played 'Guess Who' with the staff photos.
The children then made 'stone age' bread and cooked it over a fire.
In the afternoon they took part in three activities; palaeontology, cave panting and charcoal drawings.
The children had a great time and it helped spark their interest in their new topic.
In Maths this week, we have designed our own dinosaur parks. We had to consider where to place the dinosaurs and the space they each needed. We also thought about other attractions or facilities we would include.
The children worked really well in pairs and presented their ideas to the rest of the class.
