Poldhu

Welcome to Poldhu, we are years 5 and 6.
Our teachers are Mrs Nicholas, Mrs Harvey, Miss Willoughby and Mrs Winter.
We also have a guinea pig called Oreo.

Our topic for the 1st summer half term is comparing Cornwall to the USA. We will be locating countries as well as looking at the physical and human geography of the USA and Cornwall. We will then move onto looking at industry and land use. This half term year 6 will be sitting SATs and we are going on residential to Bristol.

Our topic for the 2nd Spring half term was Rainforests. We located the tropical rainforests on a world map, discussed where they are located. We then looked at the different layers of a tropical rainforest before the children took on a guided Inquiry into a rainforest of their choosing. In DT we created cushions inspired by rainforests.

Our topic for the 1st Spring half term was The Maya. We used a range of sources to make comparisons, described causes of events and their consequences and identified characteristic features of this time. In art we will recreated Maya murals.

Our topic for the Autumn term was Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and we focused on the concepts of tradition and community to answer the question 'How did England change during the settlement of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings?'

As we moved into the second half term, we focused on the similarities and differences between Anglo-Saxon and Viking culture. In art we created our own Viking Longship heads.
